I love both Shadowhunters and the pairing Malec, but I'm going to have to stay away from Malec fandom on Tumblr, cause their behavior could start negatively impacting my love for the ship. I don't think I've seen a fandom of a canon pairing this entitled since well... the highdays of Buffy/Angel.

Never mind that we got to see that scene, because, one, that's all Jace had with that girl, and two, it's a form of showing rather than telling, that Jace is trying to force himself to move on, and think of girls other than Clary, because he feels that his feelings for Clary make him a monster...
But then that would expect these viewers to think of storylines that aren't immediately connected to their own faves.

We're getting the kind of development of their relationship that I usually only dream of, even between het couples, and I can honestly think of a few het couples where we don't* get a sex scene when it's a well developed relationship.
tl;dr We get so few same sex relationships on TV, and so few same-sex sex scenes, I can see why folks would want it, but it wasn't necessary for the purposes of the story.
