BBC Three announces new series commission of zombie drama In The Flesh

BBC Three today announces a new series commission for Dominic Mitchell’s drama, In The Flesh, following a successful three-part serial earlier this year.

The drama was first developed by the BBC Drama Production team in Salford and writer Dominic Mitchell was discovered through ‘Northern Voices’, a BBC Writersroom competition.

Series two revisits the cauldron of Roarton where the living and the undead have reached a fragile peace. After the shocking events of series one, Kieren is hoping to get on with his second life but the arrival of new and explosive characters throws those plans into disarray. Battle lines are drawn and all will be judged.

Writer Dominic Mitchell says: “I am absolutely delighted and thrilled to be given this fantastic opportunity to continue exploring the characters and world of In The Flesh.”

Zai Bennett, Controller, BBC Three, says: “In The Flesh was a fantastically original and engaging drama for BBC Three. I'm delighted Dominic and the team will be able to tell more stories from the riveting characters and engaging world they created.”

Kate Harwood, BBC Head Drama, England, adds: “It is testament to the brilliant and talented in-house drama team in Salford that In The Flesh has been commissioned as a series. I am immensely proud of Dominic’s fantastic writing and can’t wait to see how the stories unfold.”

In The Flesh was commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama and Zai Bennett, Controller for BBC Three.

It is made by BBC Drama Production North and the executive producers are Hilary Martin and Ann Harrison-Baxter.

In The Flesh will film later this year and transmit in 2014 on BBC Three.

Oh, it gets another series? I'll watch it, then! I've been holding off until things get 2nd series because I'm sick of unfulfilled cliffhangers. :D

the first series didn't really end on a cliffhanger though. Sure there were unresolved plot threads, but not on the level of a cliffhanger.

Seeing as how the writer didn't know he was going to get a second series or not.

Either way, it's definitely worth watching, and I'm curious to see what'll happen to these characters next. :-)

I wouldn't know - I've been holding off watching. :D It's sad, but I only watch things now that get a season 2. I just HATE getting invested, then disappointed.

I enjoyed the first series very much but had reservations about a continuation. Often times I have noticed that 'good tv' is often spoilt by too lengthy and/or rushed re-commissions. I firmly believe that if your original story is written and, as in this case, the intention to demonstrate bigotry and the hypocrisy of life and people in it is told then your job is done and done well. If you then re-commission further episodes, purely for the sake of profit, then the show can become fodder for ridicule and shambolic (as with spn, in some opinions)....Hopefully this won't happen with ITF.

I do look forward to watching the new espisodes and am interested to see what the writer will develop, re-visit and invent.
