I saw the specialist earlier this week, he wanted me to read through ten pages of explanation on the operation, so I can give informed consent on it. Just did that, indicated anything I might have questions on for when I see him in about two weeks.

And of course I read the rest of the folder as well.

I figured that the operation would be a one night hospital stay at most. Turns out it's three days at the least, will have to make sure I take something with me to keep busy, and ask my aunt to look after my cat. Also, I'll need someone to drive me home after, turns out they frown on people driving themselves home, esp. on mopeds*g*, and to ask someone to stay with me the night I go home, just in case something happens.

Damn, this actually might happen in little over a month from now. Depending on how I can fit it in with my summer vacation.

Hopefully that info also spells out all the troubles that might happen if things don't go quite well and also how many operations the surgeon/hospital has already performed successfully.

It did actually, well not the number of operations a year. That part he told me and my aunt when we saw him. Apparently this hospital has done about 250.000 of these specific operations, and in all that time, only one of them went wrong, in that there was leakage, the guy with whom this happened had to stay at the hospital for seven days instead of the usual four.

There's also regular check ups afterwards, to make sure everything is going fine afterwards.

He also told me that the day we went to visit him, he'd already had seven people come in before me for the same operation, and the GP who sent me to him, tells me that this guy is a specialist in this kind of ops and is considered one of the best in the field.

Thanks for keeping us posted on the surgery! Are you allowed to bring your laptop (if you have one) into the hopsital room with you? That would be so handy if you could!

well I currently only have a tablet, not a laptop. but I'm not sure if I could go online in the hospital. (well I could with my phone, which I'll naturally have with me*g*)

Don't think I'll go for a single room. Only costs more, and I'm trying to get things down as much as possible, to the point that my polis and the ziekenfonds will pay for all of it. Which unfortunately will probably mean sharing a television.(more worried about not being able to turn it off, than not watching my own things*g*)

Either way, being able to go online, would definitely help with combating boredom.
