Just watched the Secret Circle

And was pleasantly surprised. And not just because I hadn't realized it's Thomas Dekker's new show ;-)



The characters seem interesting, and could be easily developped. And it's nice to see a show that so easily passes the Bechdel test without even trying.

Only remember two names so far, but that's nothing new, I suck with names*g*

The ep suffered a bit from first ep syndrome, which pretty much most pilots suffer from. (hell, the only show I know that didn't and was awesome from the pilot on was Pushing Daisies and I don't expect most shows to be that awesome right from the start*g*.

Cassie seems like she'll be an interesting character to follow, and I liked that not all the witches are girls. this makes it less a symbol for a girl thing and allows for more leeway in how witchcraft is used and/or shown in the series.

Wondering if anyone knows any communities for the show yet.

I can't wait to see the pilot! Unfortunately it only will be available for me on Friday since I live in Europe. *g*

There's a community called gale_allthetime which okay concentrates mostly on the role Gale Harold (Charles Meade) has in the series but there has been and probably will be some discussion about the series in general as well. Just in case you want to check that out.

I noticed you managed to find the download yourself*g*

I'm European as well, so I tend to download most shows I watch. On occasion this helps in getting eps early without even realizing it.

I was put off by it a bit cause the trailers looked a little cheesy tbh, so I'm glad to hear that it's better than I thought it would be anyway

Thomas Dekker was my only draw for the show. It is on my list to try. I haven't seen any trailers for it. Not getting my hopes up.

I did know that it was a 'witch' show. Everyone looks really young (not like TVD) where no one looks their age.

I luved Pushing Diaries. Yes, the pilot was amazing, agreed!

To be honest, I mostly downloaded it due to a lack of pretty much anything else to watch. I won't say it's a great show. But it has potential, and we do need more shows with strong female characters that have more in their life than talking about boys.

Well I haven't read the books myself, but I've heard from people who have that there are some major alterations. For one thing, the role of the parents has been expanded. (and considering how much I liked Cassie's grandmother that's a good thing imo)

My only hope is that they won't force too much attention on love triangles or stuff like that. I'd much rather see them focus on the witchcraft than on romance*g*

i've read the books. Cassie's mom is in the books. her grandmother has a different name, they live in New Salem, New England on an island off of the actual Salem, Mass.

there IS a love triangle in the book and one of the girls is pretty much a bitch about it. (i can't remember her name.. she's not involved in the triangle, she knows about it, and threatens to tattle.)

there's 12 in the coven in the book, but i understand the show only focuses on 6.

Cassie's from Cali, her mom and her have gone out to New Salem to stay with her grandmother over the summer... and then it turns out they stay there because her grandmother is sicker than they imagine... and they learn some very interesting things about New Salem, Cassie's grandmother and her peers... and Cassie's parents, too.

so yeah, it's different enough. there's no parents in the show. she moves out to Not-Very-Witchy Chance Harbor, Washington.

the reason they involve the grand/parents in the show is to give more screen time to more people. if you watch Vampire Diaries, there's... the sheriff, the mayor, the Council, Alaric... with the exception of Alaric, those chararcters were fleshed out for the show. there's rarely any adults in the books. same with Secret Cirtle, i'll bet.
