About ten a fifteen years ago, I was in highschool in Westerlo and used to frequent the town's library, which was actually rather well organized.

Now at the time, I found this one book, that I can't remember either the title or the writer of. I remember renting the book at least three times and I still remember what it was about, even though for the life of me, I wouldn't have a clue what any of the characters were called.

The book was about a man who's wife and child were murdered by a serial killer while he was in a coma after an accident. The man had been a lawyer and had gained certain psychic abilities while in his coma. After he woke up, he heard the nurses thoughts thinking about how they felt sorry for him because of what happened to his family.

Anyway, he went a bit half crazy and started hunting serial killers.

The second major character was a FBI agent, who'd pissed off the wrong people and was thus stuck in the basement, mostly dealing with said earlier mentioned serial killer killer's case.

Anyway, the vigilante ends up working together with the fed and they stop a government approved project, that used a brainwashed soldier to murder entire families as an experiment in causing chaos in a city.

Does this description sound familiear to anyone and if so, can they please give me the name of the book and/or the name(s) of the author(s)?

Pretty please. I really want to reread this book and the not remembering is driving me insane.

It does sound familiar, but as a movie or tv series.

After looking up Stephen King's Dead Zone, because I thought that was it, I'll have to recommend asking at [livejournal.com profile] find_a_book. Maybe they can help you.

the serial killer of serial killers sounds like Dexter, which is a book and tv series.
but as far as i know he was never in a coma and had his family murdered by a serial killer.

No, I'm quite familiar with Dexter. I have worked in bookstores for 20 years. Dexter is excellent, but reminescent of Wiltse (you might try his stuff- utterly fabulous. This was written waaaay before that series started. I'm remembering Valentine coming out around the same time. I'll figure it out soon, I promise.
