Good news and not so good news

Good news first.

I've got the money for a new computer. I will be ordering it next week, just in time for Windows 7 to have come out, so I don't have to waste time with Windows Vista.

Very happy about that. New comp will also have a webcam, which is also of the good.





Not so good news second.

I went to the doctor today. I've been having trouble with my legs for a few years now. Mostly due to my overweight. But with the losing weight, I was getting annoyed that my legs kept refusing to get thinner. Anyway, the doctor said that it might take years before the swelling of the legs goes away, but he gave me a prescription for some pills that might help.

He also gave me a what's the word sort of a letter for a doc at the hospital, to have them do something called a Doppler test to check the veins in my legs. Hoping it's not too bad, but apparently there's some specific cases where they might be able to do something about it.

If they can, then they might have to do an operation, let's just hope it won't go that far.

Luckily most of this gets paid back by the mutualities (Belgian version of healthcare), the only thing that doesn't get mostly repaid is the pills he gave me a subscription for. But I think I can handle another 25€ this month, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Sorry to hear about your health problems! As someone who suffers from a chronic condition (fibromyalgia) I feel your pain, if you pardon my poor pun. Hope they are able to do something for you.

Good news on the computer. I keep hoping mine will die so I can justify the expense!

My problem luckily isn't that bad. It's just... annoying on the most part. It's like I worked to lose all that weight, yet my legs remain swollen up. The doctor said something to do with lymphs and blood veins and I kinda lost him halfway through it. (I suck at medical stuff)

I'm just worried that things might not improve, and considering I work as a cleaning woman, I can't afford getting problems with my legs. I have to stand on them for too long to risk that.

About the computer, I'm just trying to head off the inevitable crash. Right now it still works, but the thing's getting slower every day, it refuses to allow defragmentation and I can't even do a system repair, because it keeps claiming there's no previous state to return to, or that no changes were made when I do.

I rather switch comps while I can still salvage the data on this one*g*

Oooh I'm gonna be jealous of your new computer! I still have XP. My computer is quite old, but it actually runs really well and the internet is usually really fast. Though I wouldn't mind having a new shiny computer. =P I am probably getting a new laptop this summer since I will be going to college, though. :D

I hope the pills help! Or they find a not so serious specific case where they can do something about it. :)

I considered getting a laptop. but I figured that a pc is not just cheaper, but it would be what's the word, stronger, have more memory space anD so on. That and I mostly want my new comp to be able to let me play sims 3 without crashing after fifteen minutes like this one does*eg*

It's a totally painless test, though! The specific surgical cases are usually when there's a clot, which is a bad thing! Peripheral arterial problems are highly treatable through medication - they're most common in diabetics, but sometimes it's just genetics. Blame your relatives!

That's good to know. I don't think there's a clot yet, or so I hope. The doctor said that it's mostly caused because I've been overweight since I was a kid. You know how it goes, years of the veins malforming because of the weight put upon them. And now that I'm losing weight, it might take years for them to adjust again and go back to normal.

Ha, doctors like to blame everything on weight. Don't pay too much attention to that - the only thing proven to be directly caused by being overweight (rather than things correlated with ill-health AND weight gain) is osteoarthritis of the knee. Very thin people (like my mother) have venous problems just as fat people do, although pregnancy, smoking and a high-salt diet can all cause problems. Rapid weight-gain (including through pregnancy, puberty and fat) can cause issues, but not fat in itself.
