Just found out about this from [livejournal.com profile] elisi
Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize.

I don't know, I like Obama, I feel safer knowing he's president of the US. And I do feel he'll rise the challenges he's faced with.

But... I don't think he's done enough yet to earn a Nobel Peace Prize. In fact I'd much rather see him get one in a few years after he's been president for a few years, rather than getting it now. Because right now it feels that he's getting it just for NOT being Bush (or another Republican)

Yeah, I tend to agree. It seems premature, to say the least.

But considering some of the past recipients I can't take the award all that seriously in the first place.

I totally agree with what you are saying. It's too soon for him to win since he's only been President for 3/4 of a year.

Exactly how I'm feeling. I was ecstatic when Obama won the Presidency, but he hasn't had time to earn the Nobel yet. He really is getting it for being Not!Bush (although I'm so very glad that he's not Bush - that idiot was a catastrophe for the USA and the world).

Yeah, I don't really think he's done enough, either.

It's sad that the shift from negative feelings towards the US to positive is so huge that the man who follows Bush pretty much had to be Peace Prize level. Obama himself may not have earned it, though, and I agree, they should've waited a couple years or however long it takes.

There are two kinds of Nobel Peace Prizes: anticipatory and achievement. Obama's is the former, which means that "great things are expected" of him.
