As I might have mentioned, before I'm writing a slave fic and well, it's set in this weird AU, where parents are allowed to sell their children, because kids are supposed to pay back a debt of being raised before they are free...

Long story and so on and so on...

But I wanted to center the rationalization for this on some bits in the bible. Now I've always sucked at memorizing bible quotes, but if I well remember, there's at least one bit where it says that a father is allowed to sell his daughter or something?

Anyone know where to find this quote. Or even better, know what this quote is?
(I know that there's at least a bit in the West Wing where president Bartlet uses this bit to make a point.)

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant has a master who threatens to sell a servant's children to pay his debt. However, the lesson is one of mercy, and the selling of children is generally seen as a no-no.

Matthew 18
23"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents[g] was brought to him.
25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.

26 "The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.'
27 The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.

Here's a site about the use of the Bible to justify slavery: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_slav1.htm

Even if it doesn't have what you're looking for, it's a pretty interesting place.

Exodus 21:7: "And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do." A father could sell his daughter as a slave. Even though a male slave is automatically given his freedom after 6 years, a female slave remained a slave forever.

another gem: Exodus 21:1-4: "If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself."

Exodus 21:7-11
And if a man sells his daughter to be a female slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights. If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money
