It was one thing when Dru was refusing her deworming pill. But now she's refusing to even eat her antibiotics. I crushed a pill and put it in her food. But now she's refusing to eat her food, at all.

I'm worried sick about her, she's had an operation only two days ago, and she really needs that medication. I tried to push it in her mouth, but she manages to spit it back out before I can keep her mouth shut once I actually get it in.

Hi, I'm not on LJ, just a lurker who surfs LJ for fiction. I came across your post concerning your cat. I've given a ton of pills to my cats over the years, and I know how difficult some of them can be. This is obvious advice, but you have to get the pill as far back in her mouth as you can. And a little tip from a vet years ago -- if you blow in her face, specifically into her nose, after you get the pill in her mouth it may make her swallow. And if you absolutely cannot get her to take the pills you might ask your vet to give you a liquid antibiotic. Sometimes it's easier to squirt liquid far enough into their mouths that they have to swallow it. Good luck.

Hmm, I think I'll have to go ask for the liquid antibiotics. I can barely get a pill in her throat, let out far in her throat. And since she's now refusing to eat at all...

Do they sell Pill Pockets in your area? They're soft cat treats with a hole in them that you can stick a pill into. They've been a huge help with our cats. You might be able to order them off Amazon if they're not in the local pet stores.

the problem with that is that she doesn't eat cattreats. Believe me, I've tried. I like spoiling her. But unfortunately she seems to be rather picky and will only eat her dry food and very limited amounts of wet food.

If you can get them, you might try them, anyway. I was going to say the same thing as rahirah. My Max won't eat treats, usually, but he loves Pill Pockets, as long as they're fresh. Also, try putting her on the edge of a counter or something, so she can't back out. (Or use the towel trick--I have to wrap SL's cat in a towel, so that I can get to his mouth without getting killed.) Good luck!

I used to crush the pill up into wet catfood, but he would just lick around the pill crumbles. Sigh. Last time, the vet gave him an antibio shot. Cost a lot, but worth it.
