blacksquirrel's underage brother was arrested for the high crime of walking back to his car after a concert in the general vicinity of the Republic National Convention.


Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! was arrested on "conspiracy to riot."


Massive police raids on suspected protesters in Minneapolis

Doesn't that last one remind anyone else of Maria Hill's attack on Captain America at the start of Civil War? Only with more peaceful kids, who couldn't jump out of a SHIELD helicarrier to get away.

Thanks for the links! I live in the twin cities area, and was at the march yesterday, and there were mobs of cops in riot gear. They were friendly to us, but the amount of police officers they had out bundled up with body armor and carrying sticks was more than a bit unnerving. There was no rioting or arrests that I witnessed.

I'm not entirely surprised, but I am upset to hear about blacksquirrel's brother.

There seemed to be a lot less people out for the peace march this year than last year. I wonder if it was more because of apathy, or fear.

The more I read about that situation, the worse it seems to get.

I'm usually hugely on the police's side in most cases, but the way they're reacting to peaceful protestors, and the way they raided people's homes before they even did anything... that's like trying to incite people to violence.

Honestly, I'm not angry with the police officers themselves. They were mostly pretty friendly to us, and I felt bad for them standing out there for hours in the hot sun in all that gear. I doubt it was their decision.

But that's the thing...if you have that many people bored, geared up, and high alert, isn't that just asking for trouble?
