Unfortunately, you will have to accept that Quesada will never get a clue, and has not since he joined Valiant Comics (the now defunct Acclaim Comics) - for your information, this is over a good 16 years now.
That said, I sympathize with you about this and am able to offer some consolation - namely that all the bad ideas he's had in the past have been AT BEST short-term commercial success, or so bad that he's ended up being left crying (see AsH, among other books of his).
As a fan of Iron Man, I can give the example of a story creation of his own that is no longer regarded as in-continuity: the Sons of Yinsen - a religious cult founded on the ideals of both Ho Yinsen and the technology of Tony Stark (also the result of a badly planned and ridiculous retcon involving Ultron, of all things). A year and a half after their introduction and what happened to them? Disappeared without a trace. Hopefully for Spider-Fans, the same will be true of One More Day.
