More rants about the OMD retcon
Dec. 29th, 2007 09:27 pmAnother thing to think about... Peter's role in Civil war.
Hell, in this new version of reality, it seems that Tony didn't even know who Peter was. I mean, Peter's still living with aunt May at May's old place and SHIELD hasn't shown up yet to arrest him.
And unlike Matt, Peter does not have the benefit of being able to sue if he's accused of being Spider-Man.
It's yet another thing to despise about BND, if Peter's still living with aunt May, putting her at the risk of having cops or SHIELD agents show up at any moment, and still hasn't told her of the risk she's in, then he's some damn irresponsable jerk. And most definitely not the Spider-Man I've been reading about for 20+ years.

If the Demon Lord Incarnate can do this to Peter's life, what could the Asgardian Trickster God(dess) do to put it right in a year or two's time?

Date: 2008-01-20 05:29 pm (UTC)1) Marvel and retailer expectations have been exceeded to the point where at LEAST fifteen thousand copies are required (minimum run for the printers Marvel use). This implies more readers want to buy it than copies ever expected to sell.
2) Diamond and Marvel are pushing this with incentives (it's been known to happen before) while Marvel deliberately under-printed the first issue of Brand New Day. The result is that people THINK it's hotter than originally expected, and thus it will (temporarily) drive the curious into comic book stores.
Either way - looks like the new status-quo is here to stay.

Date: 2008-01-20 06:08 pm (UTC)That this means that it's sold out at Diamond Distribution's level, but that that does not mean, it's actually sold out at retailer's level. So even though there are some retailers where the issue was sold out, there's plenty of others who can't get rid of it.

Date: 2008-01-20 11:17 pm (UTC)I know of many a creator, publisher and retailer who have been messed around by Diamond before - a big example being how Free Comic Book Day has actually damaged the small press fortunes by being coerced into (over)printing books at higher printing and production values than are sustainable for little significant return, ultimately pushing them into debt.
I know of many a small comic book store forced to order more Marvel and DC books in order to fulfil a quota to allow them to buy more copies of the independent and small press than they normally sell, or lose business by not buying said titles.
Diamond has a lot to answer for, and Brand New Day's "success" may be partly due to the business practices they follow.
