I was looking at [livejournal.com profile] yuletide yesterday, and there was a link to several secret santa coms there. The thing that surprised me is that there wasn't a single Marvel or Spider-Man com. Since we shouldn't be expecting any nice pressies from Marvel in regards to good ol' Spidey, (unless Quesada decides to stop being an idiot and 'One More Day' isn't some lame way to get rid of the marriage and the unmasking) I was just thinking it might be fun to create a Secret Spidey com.

But considering the lack of Spidey and Marvel fic in general, with the exception of X-related- or Young Avengers-fic, it might be better to keep things simple and have a "Secret Marvel Santa" thing going.

Would anyone be interested in this kind of thing?

[Poll #1072165]

Pressies could involve graphics, icons, fanfic, prose, reviews of new issues, essays .... whatever you can make, and what you think your recipient would be interested in.

Any other ideas about what this should involve?

Do feel free to spread this link around and if people are interested, would anyone feel like helping me create or co-mod this thing, cause I'm not really sure yet how such a thing would work.

I marked yes, but I am already involved in 2 of them right now ([livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [livejournal.com profile] 12days_of_clois). I'd probably write something, but I wouldn't be able to help mod or set anything up.

I wish I knew why the DC fandom is so much more active! *shrugs helplessly* I try to do some of both...

I don't really get it either. Marvel has the better characters, yet for some reason, there's few or no fanfics about them

I thik part of it is that DC fandom on lj has several well-known fans who write a lot of kinkfic and porn, and people like porn. And in some ways, Marvel characters are harder to write - the more consistent contuinity and characterization means there's less margin for error in fic. You can stretch Batman pretty far from canon before people will object, because there are about sixteen different versions of Batman. You can't do that with Spiderman, because there's really only one Peter Parker, and people will look at it and go "Peter wouldn't act like that. That's OOC."

Oh god yes, but my canon might be lakcing a bit. The world needs more spidey fic. And more F4 fic. And more Iron Man fic. And--

Hell, we need more comic!fic in general.

Marvel fandom could definately use a non-X-men ficathon/gift exchange. We probably shouldn't call it "secret Santa," though, since reading the various Yuletide-related wank on [livejournal.com profile] metafandom has made it obvious that people don't like that name.

Since I don't expect any present from Quesada until 2009 *clings to promise of Captain America movie, and the marketing push that will force them to bring Steve back* getting something from fandom would be fun.

I'm just checking--would there be X-fic allowed or not? I write Marvel fic almost exclusively, but it's mostly X-Men related. I would like to participate, esp. if I could write Exiles fic, OMG. *wants*

I don't have the time. Plus I've got a 50:50 chance of missing deadlines. *double :(*
