I don't know what it is with me.



About half the fics on Bloodshedverse and The Crypt, my two fave Spike fic sites, just don't appeal to me recently. It's like half the authors are getting worse and worse in taking the chars ooc. And why is it that so many spuffy writers are making the mistake of having Buffy be the weak one who needs to be protected and looked after by Spike.

I want my Buffy strong and powerfull and bossy damn it. Not some poor girl who needs big strong so much more experienced Spike watching over her. (if I did I'd be reading B/A or B/X or B/G fics, not B/S thank you very much.)

Or just as bad, the Buffy as Spike's mommy fic. (well not literally, but I think you get the ones I mean)

Now I don't mind daddy-kink, in slash fics, long as it's not exagerated, I can quite like it (emphasis on 'not exaggerated'), but in spuffy? I don't want Buffy to be Spike's mommy. His mistress, sure, his partner, cool, his lover, definitely, but a Buffy who goes all sweetie, baby, ... is just not Buffy.

That and even though I like a broken Spike, one of the things that makes me a fan of the character is his ability to bounce back. No matter what you do to him, he'll get back up damn it. He might bend and deal, but in the end, he comes back from it, cause he's The God damn Spike damn it. (with my apologies to the Batman fans*eg*)

Or what about those fics where in s4, Joyce and the others castigate Buffy for not being nice enough to Spike. Think about it, s4, Spike's done nothing to prove he's changed. (he hasn't even realised he wants to change) and Buffy is seen as the bad one for not welcoming him with open arms?

And oh yes, I don't like Xander as a sub. I just don't. Xander doesn't make a good sub. He works much better as a dom who's out of his league and doesn't know what he's doing.

And much as I hate B/A, Angel did care for her and Buffy was not the one who made him leave. She was NOT the one who broke up with him. She was NOT the bad guy...She really really wasn't...

God this list can go on and on and on... up to a point where there's only one in every five fics posted on both sites that I still want to read.

Is it any wonder that I've started wandering?

That and I just can't seem to find any decent sites for Spider-man fanfic. Mind you, not the movieversion. I want comicverse Spider-man fanfic.


As in 30 year old teacher Peter Parker aka Spiderman and his wife Mary Jane. I want to read slash about Peter and Tony Stark (or Jonah or Flash). I want to see fics dealing with Peter taking his mask of and going public. I want fics dealing with Civil War and I just can't seem to find more than two or three*grumble*

Considering how much Batman fanfic there is, can someone pretty please explain to me why I just can't seem to find any Spider-man fanfic? Comic-Peter's a great character, mature, funny, heroic... and yet people either don't want to write him, or they write about the movie version who's nice enough, but not the Peter I want to read about *grumble*

On the personal side of things.
My grandmother's in the hospital. I don't know what to think about that yet. Bommeke and us were never close, mostly by her own actions, but still...

And am I a bad person that my first thought after hearing that she might not leave the hospital was about the comics she's letting me keep in her attic? Even if it is the collection I've had since I was about 11, till I moved out, which makes that 16 years of comics...

WoW. Aside from the part about your grandmother (and I hope everything turns out well there) I've been writing this exact same post in my head for *months* I just couldn't find the time to polish it up and type it.

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother and yes! Buffy is the Slayer which automatically means powerful and strong. And IMO that's exactly why Spike likes her so much.

There does seem to be a general lack of innovation at the moment. It is perhaps not that people should write these things, but how they approach them and how they can make them original and believeable.

I don't read much in the way of Spuffy fics but weak Buffy is a big turn off for me too (and probably would have been for Spike).

Re: Spideyfic, Marvel outside the X-titles has never had strong fanfic bases. X-Men developed a strong 'Net fandom in the mid-90s, and even now, a lot of the Xfic is still rooted in that time period. X-Men had a lot of advantages from the start, with a large female fanbase and of course lots of people crossing over to comics from watching the animated series.

I think Spider-Man never had a big enough cast (lots of supporting characters, but no team dynamic like on the X-titles) to really attract lots of ficcers, and in the 90s when the 'Net fandoms were being born, the comics themselves were in a slump. Now with the movies and the Mtv series we're seeing a little more fic, but I think a lot of established ficcers (i.e. X-and-Bat fans) aren't familiar enough with the character to want to write him. Which I think is a terrible shame; if more people would give Spidey a chance, I think they'd discover he's a joy to write. He's got a strong supporting cast, great villains, lots of humor and pathos, and he knows and/or has teamed up with practically every other superhero in Marvel. You want het, there's MJ and Gwen and Felicia. You want slash, well choose your poison: Harry, Matt, Johnny, Tony, etc. etc.

Since there isn't an established fandom, there isn't a lot of the backbone (archives, betas, lj comms, etc.) for new ficcers to lean on. But I'm extremely excited by the momentum I've seen in the past year for Spidey fic -- when I got into comics fandom, back in '97 or so, there was seriously zilch nada nothing forget it jack for Spidey. Now we're actually seeing comms and fanfic slowly appearing.

On the flipside, dom!Buffy is just as annoying. Not that Spike can't be submissive but I just think Spike gets off on it more than Buffy does. On the show, Buffy seemed most attracted to him when he was behaving like an alpha male asshole. Frankly I think those who thought Buffy would be the one to appreciate his inner-poet were kidding themselves. She's turned on by his bad boy edge, the "wicked energy" so to speak.

And yes she totally did mommy him in S7. In the DVD commentary for LMPTM, Fury straight up admitted that they chose the name Anne and casted a woman that they thought looked SMG to play Spilliam's mother, because they wanted to set up a parallel between Buffy and her.

True, I mostly like my totally submissive Spike with Angel*g*, but aside of that though, I don't see Buffy as a sub, even remotely. She might prefer a strong partner, but when it comes down to it, she's the boss, she's the one in charge. And it's that in a big way that set Riley running for the hills. Because she can't be the sweet little girl that needs her partner to take care of her.

It's one of the main reasons I can't see her with Angel, the both of them are total doms and I can't get over the idea that if they actually got together they'd either break up and never speak again, or kill one another within the month. The only way Buffy/Angel could ever work, is if it was a threesome and they had a third less dominant partner (like say Spike) in the pairing.
