I taught at a school where a couple years after I left, the same thing happened to an 8th grader there. This was almost 10 years ago, too. It is insane...

uh....yeah....
what's disturbing is that charges were actually brought against this boy for a simple expression that is admittedly by the authorities *not* directly threatening to anyone!!! that is messed up! what about free speech and all? this is still america, people!!!

That is just too stupid for words.

It's a creative writing class and he was told to express emotion, if the teacher wanted him to restrict the emotions to the fluffy then she should've told them that.

If I was one of her students I request a transfer because she obviously has failed at her job. her students are going to be afraid to write from now on.

Not to mention she's obviously looking at it the wrong way.Instead of thinking the kid will be the next school shooter , she should be wondering if he's the next Stephen King especially since she's teaching a CREATIVE WRITING class.

Come to think of it maybe Stephen King should get a good lawyer, they might be coming after him next.

That police chief is an idiot.

This is the kind of idiotic overreaction that always seems to happen after a tragedy like Columbine or Virginia Tech. That teacher is a failure at teaching and at life, and the Police Chief is a publicity-grabbing moron.

And, yes, how would people like H. P. Lovecraft, Steven King, and Clive Barker be treated if they were in school today?
