I love both Shadowhunters and the pairing Malec, but I'm going to have to stay away from Malec fandom on Tumblr, cause their behavior could start negatively impacting my love for the ship. I don't think I've seen a fandom of a canon pairing this entitled since well... the highdays of Buffy/Angel.

Malec is my new favorite thing, but yeah, from what I've seen, it's all "I want my ship to be X, and not Y, and damn you if you don't give me exactly what I want."

I can sort of see both sides, in that we see het sex scenes all the time, and rarely more than kisses between same-sex couples on TV. So, if the only reason not to show the sex scene is because Magnus and Alec are both men, then that's kind of shitty.

However, I agree with you in that it wasn't necessary for the development of their relationship, and with Malec, we're getting a main, end-game pairing between two men that's been really sweet. We're getting the kind of development of their relationship that I usually only dream of, even between het couples, and I can honestly think of a few het couples where we don't* get a sex scene when it's a well developed relationship.

tl;dr We get so few same sex relationships on TV, and so few same-sex sex scenes, I can see why folks would want it, but it wasn't necessary for the purposes of the story.
